Between my second and third years I was lucky enough to accept the opportunity to work on a research based placement at the University of Reading. The placement was looking for evidence to support the theory that agroforestry is a more sustainable method of food production. It is proposed that it provides greater ecosystem services, in particular carbon storage and pollination, compared to conventional farming methods.

The work completed during the placement has been directly integrated into my final year dissertation, handing me data, experience and contacts that will be invaluable throughout the write-up.

With the support of the Bowyer Trust, I was able to further my knowledge in a specialist topic, whilst experiencing academic research first hand. The time has improved my analytical skills and argumentative power in essay writing. Without the financial help of the Bowyer Trust this opportunity could not have been taken, and so I am extremely grateful to the Trust.
